Having trouble getting your USB connection working between your Serious module and PC? SHIPTide not "seeing" your module?

Here are a few things you should try...

1. Ensure HarbourMaster is running.

HarbourMaster is a docked toolbar program that is launched when you run SHIPTide or SHIPCrane. It manages connections between your PC and one or more Serious modules. To see if HarbourMaster is running, make sure you've launched SHIPTide or SHIPCrane and then investigate your Windows toolbar. You might have to click the "up" button (1) to see all your docked programs, but somewhere in there you should see the (2) HarbourMaster's wheel like this:

Right click on that icon and a small menu pops up.. choose "Show/Hide" and up should pop the very techie HarbourMaster control panel. Under the "Tools/Module Control" menu it will bring up a screen something like this:

Of course, it probably won't show a module connected like this snapshot, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this... so if HarbourMaster is running, and no module is shown here, go to the next step in the troubleshooting.

Otherwise, if HarbourMaster is not running, we have to fix that or there's no way this is going to work.

2. Ensure that latest driver is installed.

3. Ensure that SIM is powered and plugged into PC.

'4. Ensure that SIM shows up in Device Manager.

5. Try multiple USB ports.

6. Try a different USB cable.

You bet. We've had bad cables drive us nuts for an hour on support calls.

7. Ask for help.

Ok, so after all that, still no joy? Drop us an email (support@seriousintegrated.com) and attach the file "debugLog.txt" that appears in a SHIPTide/SHIPCrane install folder on your PC along with the results of the steps above and information about what version of SHIPTide, HarbourMaster, and the USBD plugin it is using for further diagnosis.
