In order for SHIPTide to communicate with your SIM, you'll need a driver on your PC to tell the OS how to communicate over USB with it.

SHIP Version 5 (SHIPv5)

SHIPv5 is not supported on Windows XP. See our Windows XP EOL Statement.

For Windows Vista and beyond, this is a custom driver using the winusb.sys windows RAW class foundation.

To install:

  • The drivers are now bundled in the SHIPTide v5 download in the /drivers folder at the root of the .zip archive.
  • Plug in your SIM and make sure it is on
  • Windows will complain that it cannot get a device driver for the device
  • Go into your Windows device manager and find the SIM with the error symbol on it
  • Right-click properties -> update driver, and choose "Browse My Computer..."
  • Browse to where you unpacked the SHIPTide zip, and select the "drivers" folder
  • Windows will now install its driver for your SIM

SHIP Version 4 (SHIPv4)

These are not really drivers... they tell Windows to install a serial port driver for the device. Your SIM will show up as a COM port.

To install:

  • Download the SHIP v4 Windows .inf files for SIMs  ↴
  • Unpack this file to a directory somewhere
  • Plug in your SIM and make sure it is on
  • Windows will complain that it cannot get a device driver for the device
  • Go into your Windows device manager and find the SIM with the error symbol on it
  • Right-click properties -> update driver, and choose "Browse My Computer..."
  • Browse and select the directory where you unpacked the .inf file(s)
  • Windows will now install its driver for your SIM and tell you your SIM is attached to COMx.
